    ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

    Strategic Management

    In recent years, there has been discussion on organizational competencies and resources as building blocks of strategy. In practice, the decision making on resources and strategy tends to remain separate. Most managers take intuitive decisions about investments without focusing explicitly on strategy. However, many organizations continue with the traditional strategic management framework as their formal mechanism for planning. Yet, many leaders and managers implicitly use resource-based logic in making strategic decisions. This program intends to explicate this process and provide an understanding of the basics of resource-based strategy.

    METHODOLOGY

    A blend of discussion and short cases will be the main pedagogy for the program. Some of the sessions would also involve other tools such as role play and projects/presentations by the participants. Participants will also undertake an exercise in designing a resource-based strategy for their own organizations.

    EXPECTED PARTICIPANT

    The participants would include those who are involved in key strategy related activities in their organizations in senior and middle level positions, as well as managers in different functional areas who are involved in taking significant decisions.

    ▪ External environment, Industry and competitors.

    ▪ Resource combinations in functional competencies.

    ▪ Designing generic strategies and business models.

    ▪ Implementing strategies.

    ▪ Corporate strategy analysis and implementation.

    PROGRAM FEES AND OTHER EXPENSES

    • The fee for the programme will be 75,000 plus GST.
    • This will include tuition fees and other infrastructure necessities as required for an effective academic program.
    • Travel, Boarding and other expense in case of Residential nomination Charges for the single occupancy will be Rs.4000+GST / per day / per candidate.
    • Twin sharing will be Rs. 2400/-+GST per day / per participant including all meals over and above the non residential program fee.

    Manoj T Thomas is a professor in the strategic management area at XLRI Jamshedpur. He has been teaching strategy at XLRI Jamshedpur for the past 16 years. His interests are in understanding the resource creation and management processes in different types of organizations.
